Campbeltown Cross
Campbeltown Cross is the largest and finest example of a Celtic Cross on mainland Argyll.
Reputedly, carved on the Holy isle of Iona in the Year of our Lord 1380, it is a breathtaking example of late medieval craftsmanship, with carving of the finest detail showing Christian and Celtic symbols independently on either side of a 3.30 m shaft of blueish-green chlorite schist..’
The Cross holds a special place in the hearts of all Campbeltonians, a one-time meeting place for Civic celebrations and municipal announcements of all descriptions.
