Vehicle Use And Parking
Road Safety and Parking on the Kintyre 66
Single Track Roads
Part of the K66 route is on single-track roads, please drive with caution on these sections as the Kintyre 66 features many narrow, rural roads. Always be prepared to pull over at passing places to allow oncoming vehicles to pass or vehicles travelling behind you to overtake. Please be considerate when sharing the road with other drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
When using the passing places, NEVER cross over - park adjacent if the passing place is on the other side. The oncoming vehicle will use the space to pass.
Speed Limits
Adhere to the speed limits and drive at a safe speed, especially when travelling on the narrow, winding country roads where visibility may be reduced. Watch out for local wildlife as various species of deer are common in the area. Also, don’t forget to take care when passing farmland, where livestock, including cows, sheep and horses may be on the road, so be alert, especially at dawn and dusk.
Lay-bys & Parking
These are well signposted for all road users. Just a gentle reminder that ‘passing places’ are only for letting traffic pass, not for parking. Please use dedicated parking places.
Be mindful of others
You will be sharing parts of the Kintyre66 with cyclists using the National Cycle Network, walkers using the Kintyre Way and local horse riders moving between off road tracks. Please be mindful of your surroundings and other road users.
Carbon Footprint
Kintyre has a natural unspoiled beauty, so please dispose of waste responsibly. There are designated facilities for litter and motorhome waste so that you can leave the environment as you found it. Wherever possible, please walk and/or cycle to help protect our environment.
Motor Home & caravans
Sections of the East Coast and Gigha roads are single track and not well suited for towing vehicles so please be mindful of this when planning your journey. There are dedicated motorhome spaces at sites as you travel around the area. We ask you to be respectful of other road users and the local communities when choosing places to stop or park - if in doubt, ask a local where the best location to stop may be. Please take all your refuse away with you - don't fill up roadside bins and NEVER leave bags beside the bins.
Electrical Charging Points
We are very pleased to welcome hybrid and electric vehicles to the area. Local charging stations are pinpointed on our map.
Rural conditions
Mobile phone signal may be limited in certain areas. It is advisable to carry a physical map and ensure your vehicle is well-equipped for emergencies. If you break down, pull over in a safe spot to allow other vehicles to pass.
