Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse

The Mull of Kintyre is home to a historic lighthouse, the second commissioned in Scotland, which guides shipping in the intervening North Channel. It was built by Thomas Smith and lit in 1788, as one of the initial programme of four lighthouses built by the Commissioners of Northern Lights
To get there you have to travel along a single-track road to the Mull of Kintyre which is windy and slow-going.
The public road ends at the top of the final descent to the lighthouse, where you can park. It's then a short (about a mile) but steep walk downhill to the lighthouse. It's a beautiful, remote, and often very windy spot. From here, the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland is visible on a calm and clear day. Enjoy the views before tackling the slow, steady climb back up.
