Sir William MacKinnon Statue

The William MacKinnon statue stands beside the Aqualibrium Leisure Centre in Campbeltown. He was born in 1823 rose through the ranks to become a major figure in the development of trade around the Indian Ocean and, along with a network of colleagues and relations created a mercantile shipping empire. Along with his partner James McAlister-Hall they joined forces with another Campbeltown man, Robert McKenzie to create the British India Steam Navigation Co (BI).
The statue, originally erected in Mombasa, Kenya, in 1900, was moved to Dunbarton School in 1964 and re-erected in Campbelltown in 2004
